About Us

The ‘From the Anvil’ journey began in 1996 when ex-metal-work teacher and joiner Mark Underhill bought a small business called MF Supplies. Mark and his wife Bernadette started to sell ironmongery and fixings to joiners and builders from their family home in a small village in Mid Wales. In 1998, not content with the current product choice, Mark designed his own range of traditional, handmade ironmongery. These products were made from solid steel, and hand forged on an Anvil to give them unrivalled strength and a wealth of character.

In 2000, the 'From the Anvil' brand was launched, with the first product brochure containing around fifty handmade products. Soon, the business outgrew the small garage in Dolau and was moved to our current factory unit in the nearby town of Llandrindod Wells.

As the demand for quality, handmade ironmongery became apparent, we continued to design and manufacture an extensive collection of new products. When our range of Beeswax, Black, and Pewter reached two-hundred and fifty products, we made the decision to wholesale our unique range through a network of stockists across the UK.

An extension to our factory enabled us to hold greater stock levels and provide our Stockists with a next day delivery service. We continued to design new products which were manufactured from mild steel using hand forged methods. This range of ironmongery later became known as our Blacksmith range.

With the manufacturing and design skills acquired throughout our journey, we decided to expand our product offering. This led to the launch of our Period collection, forged from solid brass and bronze. In 2012, Mark’s son Tom took over the running of the business as Managing Director.

Our premises was further extended in 2015, and this extra space allowed for bespoke manufacturing, and the production of our signature lighting range featuring our Brindley, Hockley, and Harborne pendants.

In 2022, we expanded our warehouse to accommodate our biggest product launch to date. We released over a thousand new products including door, window, and cabinet furniture, as well as introducing our exclusive hand forged Marine 316 Stainless Steel finishes. As the business grew, so did our team, and we also further expanded our premises acquiring a new office space specifically for our Creative Team. 

Using our industry knowledge and proven manufacturing techniques, we were inspired to create our own range of Home & Garden products designed to complement our existing offering. The initial collection includes a variety of handmade plant pots, log holders, companion sets, boot racks and sinks which enable our customers to furnish their entire property to an exceptionally high standard. The artisanal nature of these designs means no two items are identical but each one has the same durability and elegance that’s expected from our products so you can enjoy them for years to come.

‘From The Anvil’ continues to evolve and our talented team are always working on new styles, finishes, and innovations. We remain focused on creating high quality products with refined designs and providing excellent service and aftercare to our customers. We're also working on multiple new product launches for 2024, which will continue to substantially increase our product offering.
