PVD Brass
Our Physical Vapour Deposition finish (PVD) is designed to prevent discolouration and oxidisation, making it an excellent choice where a low maintenance finish is required.
We advise against the use of chemicals, and other harsh cleaning products on this finish as it may affect the lacquer.
An oily cloth can be used to wipe over the finish from time to time to remove any harmful deposits that build up on the surface of your product, this will also aid protection against any environmental elements.
To increase the mechanical life expectancy of your products, we recommend regular oiling of all moving parts using our ‘3-in-1 Oil’ (92337). This process is also highly recommended during initial installation.
Environmental Conditions
Whilst all finishes will age gradually certain environmental factors will increase the rate at which this occurs. We always encourage following our maintenance guidelines to ensure your products stay looking their best.
However, in coastal or harsher environmental property
locations we would recommend the following finishes.
- Satin Marine SS (316)
- Polished Marine SS (316)
- Aged Brass
- Polished Brass
Acetylated Wood
Acetylated wood is the technical term for timber which has undergone chemical modification to produce a more dimensionally stable, longer lasting base material, Accoya is the most well know of these woods.
All our ironmongery is supplied with stainless steel hardware as standard to ensure suitability for use with acetylated wood. All finishes which are listed as suitable for external use can be fitted providing the door or window has been fully painted. If unfinished wood is being used, then stainless steel or brass should be selected.
Wet Trades
This includes plasters, painter and decorators as well as any other trades which may affect the atmospheric conditions in the room. When dealing with these trades we recommend ensuring the room is fully cured & dry before fitting our ironmongery to ensure there are no harmful substances in the environment to impact on the longevity of the hardware.
Stainless steel
If required, we can produce many of our mild steel base finishes on a stainless steel base which does ensure compatibility with harsh environments or acetylated wood.
