Meadowside Transformation

Meadowside Transformation

When renovating a building, finishing touches make all the difference! One of the most important considerations during this process is the ironmongery because high-quality products can completely transform a space.

The owners of Meadowside, a gorgeous home in the heart of Wales, kept this in mind during their renovation, which led them to select From The Anvil ironmongery and lighting to furnish their property. In this article we show how our products have been used to elevate each room, giving a sense of grandeur and luxury.

Our Pewter ironmongery has been used generously throughout this property, such as the Regency Espagnolettes accentuating the windows. This finish works particularly well in this home as it stands out against the dark aluminium window frames, adding a touch of elegance. Some of the exterior doors have been fitted with matching Regency Slimline Lever Espag. Lock Sets, whose delicate design enhances both the aesthetics and security of the property.

As the property has numerous exterior doors, the entrance, rear, and side doors were adorned with Black ironmongery to make them stand out. To keep in line with the Regency range, our Black Regency Slimline Lever Espag. Lock Sets were used. Our Black finish has a subtle sheen that contrasts boldly on the unpainted timber, emphasising its natural grain. Because we bake our black finish in a high-temperature oven, it has durable corrosion resistant properties which make it suitable for both internal and external use. Mixing Black and Pewter finishes on the exterior handles is a creative way to distinguish the main entrance doors from the patio doors.

Internal doors can have a surprisingly large impact on a property and Meadowside is a perfect demonstration of this statement. In the before picture below, you can see how the open doorways feel incomplete and there’s no real separation of the rooms. The addition of a door gives privacy when needed and adds a feeling of cosiness. To elevate the look, the doors have been fitted with our Regency Lever on Rose Set. This set is loved for its unique structure featuring embellished rings along the handle. Selecting a lever on rose instead of a traditional backplate draws attention to the handle, emphasising its intricate design.

For a quirky feature piece in this new home, our Sliding Door Hardware Kit was selected in a bespoke Pewter finish. Sliding doors were chosen to add privacy while simultaneously maintaining the open plan spaciousness of the downstairs living area. Because the doors can open fully, two areas can be connected to improve the state of flow through the home and give the illusion of a larger space. Sliding doors also offer the benefit of increased floor space availability compared to traditional hinged doors and are incredibly easy to install. In this property, the bespoke finish aligns the door kit with the ironmongery found elsewhere, and pairs perfectly with the rest of the ironmongery and accessories used in the downstairs living area.

Before the property had been fully furnished, it had an open, roomy feel which resembled an open-plan living space but was quite bare, lacking character and personal touches. After careful contemplation, the owners decided to showcase a tonal theme in their kitchen, incorporating shades of white, grey, and Pewter. Light grey cupboards have been used throughout the kitchen whilst the impressive centre island has been fitted with dark grey cabinetry and topped with smooth, marble countertops. Cleverly, the island cabinets have been colour matched to two Slate coloured Hammered Nickel Harborne Pendants hanging overhead to create a striking focal point that demands attention.

The three Brindley pendants hanging over the dining table are similar to the Harborne pendants as they have the same matt finish and hammered Nickel interior, but their shape is much more slender. While there is consistency across the finishes, the slight differences in the pendants help differentiate the kitchen from the dining area. Our Hammered Nickel pendants are spun from a solid brass base and plated in nickel before being hand-hammered by our expert blacksmiths to create a stunning, textured interior. When lit, this surface glistens and reflects beautiful patterns whilst emitting a soft, dappled light.

For further consistency, the Hammered Nickel interior of the pendants have been closely coordinated with the kitchen’s cabinet furniture, chosen in a rich Pewter finish. The space makes use of our Regency Drawer Pulls and Regency Cabinet Knobs throughout, showcasing our Large Regency Pulls on the full-length cabinet doors. Consistently using the same range of ironmongery gives the room a clean, polished look, and the chosen finish is a great choice for the kitchen thanks to its damp-resistance and low-maintenance care requirements. Our Regency Collection is loved not only for its timeless aesthetic, but also for its versatility and applications in every room of the house. For this reason, the owners also implemented the Regency range in their utility room where it offers a dramatic juxtaposition against their sage green cabinetry and highlights the subtle details of this design.

Their chosen finish works wonderfully in this property because its cool, silvery hues contrast beautifully with the warmth of the rustic oak beams to add a sense of homeliness. If properly cared for, these products will last a lifetime due to the durable base of steel from which our Pewter products are forged.

Despite its comprehensive cupboard space, this home utilises clever storage solutions to maximise its efficiency. For a simple but attractive option, our Coat Hooks were chosen in a Natural Smooth finish. This design flawlessly balances practicality with style as its tiered hook provides extra grip for dish cloths and other homeware items. Against the painted wood, these hooks create a medley of textures which adds interest to the area.

Moving onto the bathroom, our Oval Cabinet Knobs were chosen in a bright Polished Chrome Finish. As part of our Period Collection, these knobs have a simplistic design highlighted by their high-sheen finish. They blend seamlessly with the chrome tap and shower head but create a striking contrast against the deep blue bathroom cabinet. Furthermore, the subtle distinctions between the Polished Chrome in the bathroom and the finishes elsewhere in the house adds an additional layer of intrigue to the property.
