A Guide to Wall Lights

A Guide to Wall Lights

Lighting has an enormous impact on the inside and outside of a property, altering the entire look and feel of a space. Wall lights are a great way to add both personality and functionality to your home. Read on for our ultimate guide to wall lighting…

How to Install Wall Lights

All our wall lights are mains power operated, meaning they need to be hardwired into the wall. This keeps the cables and wiring hidden within the walls for a seamless look. If you’re looking to update existing wall lights, this is a fairly simple process which you can do with a couple of basic tools or employ the help of an electrical professional.

Because our wall lights are mains-powered, they are turned on and off using electrical switches. Choose your switches and sockets in finishes that complement your wall lighting like Matt Black or Black Nickel to give a chic look. Where to Hang Wall Lights

Wall lights can be used throughout the home in conjunction with ceiling pendants and task lights to successfully create layered lighting. This uses a series of different light sources which can be turned on and off independently of one another to create different ambiences.

Wall lights are an excellent choice for hallways and other narrow areas where space-saving is key. Unlike table and floor lamps, wall lights don’t take up any surface space, leaving your interior clear and uncluttered.

Living areas are another common place for wall lights. Two wall lights are often placed on either side of a fireplace; This gives a sense of symmetry and highlights the design of the fireplace. Likewise, wall lights are often found in the bedroom on either side of the bed which look great aesthetically, and ensures the light is dispersed close to the bed.

How to Style Wall Lights

When styled correctly, wall lights will make a beautiful addition to any space. Try aligning your wall pendants with panelling, which can be used to create ornate framing to emphasise your lights.

Wall lights can also be used to add function to an otherwise unused space. For example, the narrow space between two windows, or the blank wall next to a door can be completely transformed by the addition of a wall light.

When selecting your lights, it’s important to choose a style that will complement your interior. From The Anvil’s Flora pendants are well suited to contemporary settings and are suited to neutral colour schemes. Select a Smooth Copper Flora light to create a warm, gentle ambience, or a Smooth Nickel alternative for a cooler, more modern feel.

For a chic or industrial-style look, opt for our Brindley wall lights, which feature delicate curves and a traditional design. Create cohesion by choosing hardware in a matching finish, such as pairing a Smooth Brass Brindley wall light with Polished Brass or Aged Brass cabinet furniture.

Similarly, you can match the colour of your wall lights to the colour of the walls themselves. This gives a luxurious appearance as the wall and the lights appear as a single continuous element. This works particularly well for darker walls and dramatic interiors.

How to Choose Lightbulbs

Choosing the right lightbulb is essential for getting the most out of your wall lights. To keep things simple, we offer two different bulbs which are both compatible with any of our wall lights.

Our LED Light Bulb is round and simplistically charming, making it suitable for any type of interior. With a 2200K colour temperature, this bulb will create a bright but warm glow alongside any of our wall lights.

Contrastingly, our Vintage LED Edison Light Bulb is slender and conical, which gives it a modern feel suited to more minimalist interiors. This bulb has a 2700K colour temperature, making it a slightly cooler alternative.
