We’ve been speaking to Brigita from @dovecotebarns about their recent barn conversion and we’re excited to show you the results!
The barn has been completely remodelled to give it a fresh lease of life and we think you’ll agree it looks amazing! The expanse of glass along the side of the property provides a stunning view of the surroundings and floods the property in natural light. Once you walk through the front door, you’re greeted by a spacious property which has been impeccably designed, complemented by our From The Anvil products which add a new rustic twist throughout.

Q: What type of barn did you convert?
A: It was an 18th century brick cart shed and Granary with new environmentally built extensions on either end.
Q: What made you want to convert a barn?
A: It was a second phase to complete conversion of the old agricultural barns on the farm into sustainable holiday lets on the family arable farm.
Q: How did you find the barn conversion process?
A: The 2020 project was a conversion of a fourth holiday let barn following a previous project in 2008 for The Dovecote Barns. Both the original brick building as well as the new timber frame extensions were developed using sustainable building practices and materials.
Q: How much of the original barn were you able to restore?
A: We have retained most of the original features of the barn and reused timber from around the farm buildings.
Q: What are your design inspirations?
A: Original textures/features alongside modern rustic luxury and interiors.
Q: At what stage of the build did you consider ironmongery?
A: Towards the latter furnishing phase.
Q: How did you come across From the Anvil & why did you choose From The Anvil products?
A: Came across your brochure whilst looking in a store for rustic good quality ironmongery that was not produced on mass abroad.
Q: What advice would you give people considering starting a barn conversion?
A: Be prepared for whatever the old buildings might throw at you! It is important to build in an environmental way to conserve energy and future proof these beautiful old buildings.
Q: What part/aspect did you most enjoy about the barn conversion process?
A: Bringing back to life the historical building and retaining its character.
