Aged Bronze Hardware

A Brief History of Bronze

The historical Bronze Age began nearly 5,000 years ago in Britain. This critical period marks the point at which humans replaced their stone tools with an alloy of copper and various other metals, known as bronze. Ancient civilisations found that weapons made from this alloy were stronger and more durable than their stone counterparts. Furthermore, this metal could be smelted and poured into moulds where it would cool & solidify into the desired shape. The Bronze Age may have ended, but our love of bronze persists!

Our Aged Bronze

At From The Anvil, our Aged Bronze products are manufactured from solid bronze containing a minimum of 85% copper. This finish undergoes a unique ageing process during which it develops a distinctive dark appearance. To protect these striking tones, we apply a robust matt lacquer during the final manufacturing stages which ensures longevity of our ironmongery.

We have a wide variety of products in this finish, with our Art Deco, Beehive, and Hinton collections proving particularly popular. Also available are our Mushroom, Newbury, Oval, Prestbury, Regency, & Tewkesbury ranges; such diversity allows us to cater to every style of interior.

Why Aged Bronze?

Thanks to its timeless aesthetic, our Aged Bronze finish is consistently in high demand, especially among those aspiring for luxury. Aside from its pleasing appearance, this finish is loved for its hardwearing nature. With strong anti-corrosive properties, Aged Bronze is suitable for both internal and external use, allowing you to create consistency throughout your property. Our Hinton range is a stellar example of this, including matching window stays, fasteners, & door handles, designed to add a glamorous touch to any space.

These products require minimal maintenance and will last a lifetime if properly cared for. We advise against using Brasso or any other cleaning products on this finish as they may affect the lacquer. However, we do recommend using our 3-in-1 oil on moving parts of our products during their initial installation to prolong their lifespan. An oily cloth can also be wiped over the surface occasionally to enhance protection against environmental elements.

Styling With Aged Bronze

Due to its versatile qualities, our Aged Bronze finish is suited to a plethora of settings. Its rich, matt look pairs perfectly with a painted finish, and has a striking presence that works well in vintage properties & monochromatic interiors alike. Aged Bronze creates a bold contrast against light shades. Calm, warm tones such as sage green or beige complement this finish well, but crisp white can also be used to create an eye-catching juxtaposition of colours. For an understated alternative, this finish can be coupled with darker hues, such as greys or blues, ideal for refined interiors. As part of our Period collection, Aged Bronze is a prime candidate for traditional homes, or for adding a vintage twist to modern properties.
