Hand Forged Marine 316 Stainless Steel: 10 Years in the Making

Hand Forged Marine 316 Stainless Steel: 10 Years in the Making

Ten years ago, in the seaside town of St Ives, From The Anvil founder Mark Underhill was on a short break with his wife, Bernadette. While navigating the narrow streets on an afternoon stroll, Mark was intrigued by the rusted ironmongery spoiling the view of the picturesque coastal homes.

He found many properties had beautifully crafted door furniture that had deteriorated in the salt rich breeze owing to unsuitable base materials, and a handful of front doors with Stainless Steel examples that had survived. But in his opinion their commercial designs were dull, resulting in characterless products which added no value to the properties.

This provided Mark with the inspiration and determination to develop a new concept of Stainless Steel ironmongery, one which could survive the harshest environmental conditions and look aesthetically pleasing in more traditional settings. For years, tireless in his pursuit, he researched materials and tested different production methods until he finally perfected his craft.

It’s been ten years in the making, but Mark has made the impossible possible.

From The Anvil are proud to unveil the addition of Hand Forged Marine Grade 316 Stainless Steel ironmongery within our product offering.

This extensive collection of stylish and unique products has an innate resistance to both corrosion and oxidisation which makes them suitable for environments with high atmospheric salinity and acidity, and the hand forged technique used to manufacture the products, along with the Stainless Steel base material gives them an unrivalled level of strength.

When properly cared for, our Stainless Steel products have a lifespan of over 50 years, even in the harshest outdoor conditions. Alongside external ironmongery, this collection includes an array of internal door, window and cabinet furniture offering consistency throughout your home. Each product is available in two distinctive finishes; Polished and Satin.

Polished Stainless Steel

Our Polished Stainless Steel products are bright and reflective. Their high-sheen finish offers a contemporary look which emanates both class and luxury. Naturally, Polished SS is suited to modern settings, and pairs well with painted timber and matt textures. Deep, pigmented colours such as maroon, slate, and navy best highlight the lavishness of this finish.

Satin Stainless Steel

Satin Stainless Steel offers a more muted alternative to Polished SS. This finish is loved for its frosted appearance and cool tones which bring a wealth of character to their surroundings. The subtlety of these products lends them to contemporary properties, where they also work in harmony with painted timber and gloss furniture alike. We recommend use with soft shades and neutral colour schemes such as pale grey and baby pink. This finish is also an attractive option for commercial use or high traffic areas as it requires little maintenance.

Summary

For a finish that’s as durable as it is beautiful, our Marine 316 Stainless Steel is a wonderful choice! Whether you prefer a Polished or Satin finish, our new collection boasts an extensive array of window, door, and cabinet furniture designed to enhance and complement your home.
