Top Tips for Your Kitchen Renovation

The kitchen has been the core of the home since the time of hearths and embers. How you choose to design your kitchen is an opportunity to reflect the comforts of your family and lifestyle in the space it matters most. Here are some tips for renovating your hearth into the hub that feels most like home.

1. Get professional design help.

A kitchen designer will know tricks you won’t and will give expert advice.

2. Plan!

Planning your kitchen remodel should take more time than the actual construction. About 6 months.

3. Make all your design choices upfront.

Simple details can make a huge difference so it is important to choose these early on. Choosing your appliances, ironmongery, sink, worktops, tiles and figuring out where your plug sockets will go early is recommended as these have big implications on layout.

4. Make one show-stopping design choice.

Give your kitchen personality but be careful not to overdo it.

5. Include something natural.

Adding a natural element adds warmth and contrast if you’re using colder materials like marble or if you do an all-white kitchen.

6. Don’t underestimate the power of lighting

Lighting can make a world of difference in a kitchen, it can make it look larger and brighter.

7. Think about storage

Storage will never go out of style! Install cabinets that reach the ceiling and add hooks to hang things up. Larders are the on-trend feature this year and are a great addition to any kitchen remodel, whether you've got large amounts of space or not. There are slimline models which mean you can add in a small version or larger designs for bigger kitchens.

8. Colour is a huge factor.

If you want to showcase your cabinets' colour, pick a wall colour that will emphasize them. Choose paint with the same undertone as your cabinets but a couple of shades darker. Your cabinets will draw the eye, and the room will appear more spacious. The cabinets should complement the walls, as well as the floor colour, appliances, and countertops.

9. Think about flooring.

It’s amazing how updating flooring can really transform a room. From the warmth of engineered wood to punchy patterned vinyl, researching flooring as part of a kitchen remodel is worth doing.

10. Upgrade your kitchen cabinets.

You don’t always have to do a complete renovation to upgrade your kitchen, it can be as simple and inexpensive as painting your cabinets and changing the ironmongery.
